How can you tell that it’s the middle of the year and gradually making its way into the back half? Phone releases are back in full swing, and the rumour mill is going a little crazy.
It’s July, and while we’d normally expect new Pixel phones from Google in late August, the maker of Android apparently has the timing slightly earlier this year, focusing on mid instead.
That’s the news from Google, which looks set to announce the follow-up to the Pixel 10 range on August 12 in the US, only a few weeks from the Samsung Unpacked on July 22, where new foldable phones are expected alongside watches, as well.
Google’s own efforts will likely include at least one foldable phone and its own wearable, as last year’s Pixel Watch 4 becomes an upgraded Pixel Watch 5 for this year at the event. Keep in mind these will also appear before an expected September event for the iPhone, which rumours are pointing to a foldable iPhone launch, as well.
While not much is known about Google’s new phones, one thing you should definitely expect is a higher price tag.
Thanks in part to the need for memory to build all those data centres, prices for any piece of technology that uses memory and storage is also going up. A likely connected price rise is expected for the new iPhone models, much as it arrived for Macs and iPads, and the same is expected for new Pixel phones, as well.
Hopefully the new Pixel 11 range will be more than the Pixel 10a’s rehashing of its previous generation, and provide more than just an AI feature or two that’s new, but we’ll know in about a month. August 12 in the US and August 13 in Australia is when we can expect to find out just what Google has in store, prices and updates aplenty.
