Random walls and tiny spaces are no big deal for Samsung’s latest, which promises entertainment anywhere.
We’re seeing a lot of changes for projectors in the past few years, and there’s little wonder why. TVs may be good for bringing a big screen to a living room, but a projector can deliver a big screen to practically anywhere.
All you need is a wall, and you are largely good to go.
But as we keep finding with projectors, the problem with a wall is that it’s not always flat. You might have a crease or a corner, or even a fold that makes it difficult to shine a projected image and get a clear picture.
There have been slight fixes over time, particularly in the field of keystone correction, but it doesn’t always nail the result.
Samsung’s latest take on the portable projector could be the solution, with the CES 2026 launch of The Freestyle+ projector including a type of keystone correction that uses 3D distortion correction. Essentially, when you project onto uneven surfaces, AI will pick up on the angles of the wall, curtains, corners, and other aspects of an un-flat screen, and correct the screen for it.
That’s part of Samsung’s “AI OptiScreen” technology, a system that not only deals with keystone correction, but a real-time focus and wall calibration feature, the latter of which analyses the colour and pattern of the surface to cut back on potential distractions, calibrating for it.

The improvements still come in a design similar to that of the first generation Samsung Freestyle projector, with the new 2026 plus model including a 180 degree rotating design and 360 degree speaker, but still no battery built in. While companies such as Xgimi and Anker’s Nebula have all launched portable projectors with small batteries, Samsung’s The Freestyle+ appears to still need a plug.
However, it will come with AI for use, and works with Samsung TV Plus and the Samsung Gaming Hub, meaning it supports apps, and likely a virtual console using Xbox Cloud Gaming given the support for the gaming hub.
There’s no word on Australian pricing or availability just yet, but Samsung suggests we could see The Freestyle Plus projector later this year, with a global rollout occurring in the first half of 2026.
