Whether you’ve found your way to coding because you’ve been dabbling and perhaps joining your kids, or perhaps because it’s your job, you may have some specific gadgets you lean on.
A great keyboard with the sort of action that doesn’t make you regret wanting to sit at your desk for hours on end, and possibly an excellent chair for much the same reason.
You probably haven’t considered your mouse in quite the same way.
While many of us get by with whatever mouse comes with whatever device we’re using (a trackpad normally), sometimes you might want to consider something with more control, or more specific functions. A keyboard with customisable features specific to an app could get you working with more speed and efficiency, or a specific style of mouse.
There isn’t typically much for developers in that regard, and the approach often sees them shoehorning something else to match their purpose. But Logitech looks game to make its creator-focused gear for developers with a highly specific limited edition.

The idea is a limited edition mouse, with the MX Master 4 Developer Edition, a variant of Logitech’s “MX Master” mice sculpted to fit the right hand that includes some very obvious developer focused in-jokes such as “Hello World” (a programming lesson for every newbie), tributes to specific programmer notes (0xFF + 1 for World Programmer’s Day on the 256th day of the year), and a few other bits and bobs.
More importantly, the mouse works with Logitech’s software to let users tweak the haptic feedback from last year’s MX Master 4 standard edition to switch between terminal windows, while a button for the software’s “Actions Ring” can trigger features, as well.
Long story short, the MX Master Developer Edition is basically a special edition of the MX Master 4, and one that Logitech will have until it runs out, making it a proper special edition. Not every developer will be enthused — some will clearly just want a simple black or white or silver mouse, and the colours here may not grab.
But if you are a dev that likes to stand out a little, you’ll find the MX Master 4 Developer Edition in stores shortly for just under $200.
