Google IO set for late-May, and that means Android 17

You probably won’t see a new Pixel flagship quite that early, but the future of Android, Chrome, and possibly Gemini’s AI and search comes in May.

It can be difficult to believe, but near the end of two months into the year, we’re already getting a firm idea of what’s coming. Phones. Tablets. Laptops. Oh my!

If the world’s biggest tech show CES wasn’t enough, events run specifically by companies are now happening, kicking off with Samsung and then Apple, and Google it seems will be ready to talk about something in May, as well.

It may not be a phone, at least initially, because we’ve already been introduced to the Pixel 10a, the Pixel 9a’s marginally improved cousin.

However, Google has announced when its regular “I/O” conference is set for, with May 19 and 20 in the US, which means May 20 and 21 for those of us in Australia.

While it’s unlikely you’ll see the upcoming Pixel 11 there, Android 17 will likely make an appearance, as will updates to search, Chrome and Chromebooks, and of course, AI.

That’s just more in the “things to come” category, and likely a month out from Apple’s own regular software conference of WWDC, typically kicking off in June.

Maybe we’ll end up hearing about how Google has evolved its approaches to misinformation, something Pickr may have had a hand in. Ahem.
