Wireless headphones may well be the tech every manufacturer and its proverbial dog has access to, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants the same cordless concept. In recent years, retro has started to return, be it cassette tapes, CD players, and even corded headphones.
Some people just prefer the cord, and that appears what Bose is thinking about with its latest pair of earbuds.
This week, Bose has decided to revive what was once retired, as the previously corded QuietComfort earbuds are born once again, albeit without the “QuietComfort” name.
The newly announced “Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds” more or less say exactly what Bose has made, as it returns cords to the conversation, something we’ve seen in the retro-revival, as well.
Bose’s offering is actually quite similar to a model last seen over ten years ago which bundled in noise cancelling tech and a power source into a small rechargeable panel attached to the earphones.
Obviously, time has changed, and so the latest model manages to do away with the panel, simply using the USB-C port on a phone to control the noise cancellation, which runs through “quiet” and “aware”, as well as an ANC off mode.
That makes these earbuds a variation of noise cancelling made to stay tethered, and also featuring an in-line remote, something that also disappeared when cords did. They will also handle music playback over a spot of high-res, covering 24-bit and 48kHz, something not every pair will cover.
The other key point could be price, with these Bose buds set to bring noise cancellation from the high-end brand for under $200. Officially, Australians will find them for $170 in Australia (or $169.95 if you need the official price).
The earbuds launch shortly, clearly providing something a little less expensive even when compared to the Bose QuietComfort headphone generation that is cordless, and was recently updated, as well.
