Twelve South’s latest accessory keeps an iPhone upright

Magnetic charging is but one use for MagSafe and Qi2. Another is apparently to hold your phone upright as you work.

Owners of a recent iPhone probably know all too well their phone can hold in place with magnets, and eventual owners of a MagSafe Android phone will get that luxury, too.

It’s great for charging a device, and if you happen to want to leave your phone resting on your laptop screen, there’s an accessory for that. But what if you need an impromptu holder and stand?

Peripheral maker Twelve South has something on the way with a pocketable stand that folds flat when not in use.

The Curve Nano is basically that: a fold-up MagSafe stand able to hold up an iPhone from the iPhone 12 onwards — pretty much any current iPhone that isn’t the iPhone 16e or iPhone SE — as well as the one current Android that supports Qi2 at the moment.

The gadget isn’t quite technology, but is definitely made for it, bringing an aluminium design to what is basically a phone stand with a magnetic ring inside.

At $64.95 in Australia, the Twelve South Curve Nano is possibly a little overpriced for what it is, especially when you can lean your phone against a book if need be. However, it does provide adjustable angles, which is something a book won’t offer.

About the only thing it also needs is the ability to open bottles. There’s that obvious ring opening on the back, but we don’t yet know if the alloy is strong enough to survive a bevy or two like your typical keychain bottle opener. Hopefully it can, otherwise this gadget might just be best left for the desk, your pocket, or a table at the coffee shop while you work.
