Moto adds to the thintastic with upcoming Edge 70

Super thin phones are on the way from more than just the likes of Apple and Samsung, as Moto details what we can expect from its on-brand “Edge” range.

Device makers may have foldable phones, but don’t let that stop them from making a properly thin phone a pair of tight jeans won’t have a problem with.

Even though you can unfold a foldable so that it’s thinner than most non-foldables, the breed of super thin phones is beginning to make it possible to bring high-end tech in a super slimline package, and we’ve seen a few this year.

First there was Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, a sort of reimagining of the S25 Ultra without the S-Pen, and then Samsung’s foldable Z Fold 7 showed how thin we could get tablet foldables to be. More recently, the iPhone Air managed to get the size of its iPhone down to super slim levels, though at the cost of cameras.

Motorola looks keen to give the idea a proper swing with an upcoming model launching first overseas, but could see Australia later on, as well.

Part of the “Edge” range, the Edge 70 is on-brand for the name given its focus on being slim, offering a 5.99mm design with a 6.67 inch pOLED display, making it large but thin. The hardware inside isn’t the most high-end, sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, but the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage should be plenty for most people.

Alongside this is a couple of cameras, potentially beating the one of the iPhone Air. That includes two 50 megapixel cameras, one of which covers wide and the other ultra-wide, as well as a third camera acting as a bit of a light sensor, something Oppo mentioned on its recent launch in Australia.

It technically gives you two usable cameras for the model, with a third doing some extra work, though all three give the Moto Edge 70 a little more thickness in the camera department.

The phone will sport a sizeable battery, though, boasting a 4800mAh battery and as much as 29 hours of continuous video or up to 50 hours of battery life, depending on what you do on the phone. Motorola’s Edge 70 also arrives with water resistance in an aluminium frame.

One thing it doesn’t yet have is an Australian price or release date, but here’s hoping we’re not too far off from that, and we’ll hear something soon.
