Journey lifts iPhones, Pixels with Qi2 desk mat

Now that Qi2 supports magnetic charging on more than just the iPhone, you can stand up other devices, too. And Australia’s Journey has a desk mat to suit.

If the keyboard on your desk is looking a little long in the tooth and needs a sort of bed to call it home, there’s no shortage of desk mats to help out.

Most desk mats, however, are just a strip of fabric, and usually some vinyl or plastic designed to look like leather. There’s not much in the way of technology to consider, even if you’re trying to make your office look a little fancier.

A couple of years ago, though, an Australian company had a bright idea: throw in a couple of charging pads and make that same accessory a little better for our wireless world.

Back in 2023, the Journey Alti made waves for being a desk mat with MagSafe and Qi wireless charging built in, covering both a pad for earphones and a MagSafe magnetic charging pad for the iPhone.

There have been variants over the years, but now a good two years later, Journey is adding something that will make it compatible with devices beyond the iPhone: Qi2.

The Journey Alti Lift is the company’s latest, and while it flips the position of charging pads, it also comes with a stand that literally lifts up, holding an iPhone or another magnetically-charged phone at an angle.

Technically the fifth mat in the Alti range, the stand can lay flat, either when used or unused, but also stand up, holding an iPhone and other Qi2-enabled devices in either portrait or landscape, and charging them with up to 15W.

Like the previous generation, the charging pad section is removable from the desk mat itself, and can be mounted on either side, left and right. And just like the previous generations, there are two sides — felt and vegan leather — with the main section hiding a document section, as well.

One thing you won’t get in the Alti Lift is support for Qi2 25W, meaning charging speeds max out at 15W, versus the faster 25W option making its way out.

However, due to the fact that Qi2 has supported magnetic mounting since it was launched, it should mean that almost every model of the current iPhone range is supported (except the iPhone 16e), and all of those PixelSnap-compatible Google Pixel 10 models, too, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and even the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Journey’s Alti Lift is available now, priced at $169.99 in Australia, and can be found in two colours.
