By late afternoon on July 8, one of the more serious outages for Telstra was mostly done and dusted. What happened, and is it likely to happen again?
It’s been a day where Australia’s biggest telco likely felt like it would never end, arriving in the early hours with a major outage, and not seeing it properly fixed and finished until the afternoon.
On July 8, Telstra saw an outage that may have been one of the most severe of its kind, as a software issue took down the network for customers across the country. It wasn’t just Telstra subscribers that saw their network access disconnected, but anyone using the smaller mobile operators using the Telstra service, such as Belong, Boost, Mate, and many others.
So what happened, and what can you do if you’re still struggling to connect?
On ABC WA Statewide Drive with Paul Cook, Pickr’s editor Leigh Stark joins with the latest on all of that, and whether the future of mobile networks could prevent this from ever happening again. Check out the segment from the July 8 programme, kicking off from just after the 1 hour 1 minute mark (1.01.22 to be exact, which also includes audio from Telstra and government spokespeople).
