Outages are becoming a little common, and with the third major outage of the year, Telstra’s customers mightn’t be happy. What happened?

On July 8, 2026, Australia’s biggest mobile carrier saw a pretty major outage taking out connections all across the country. From mobile users to data connections on tablets, all the way to various transport systems reliant on the biggest telecommunications network, very little worked, and it was a struggle to get a stable connection.

Kicking off from the early hours of the second Wednesday in July, the outage was a serious issue, and very little could ease the drama.

So what was happening, and what could you do?

Pickr’s Leigh Stark joined ABC Perth Breakfast with Christian Horgan to explain, diving into what was known, and what regular people could do to help their mobiles reconnect. Check out the segment before ABC pulls it down, which starts just before the 1 hour 9 minute mark (at roughly 1.08.45).
