AI may be the subject of every second news story, but this week, it might be smart glasses, with a new nickname of “pervert glasses” and privacy fears, complete with some politicians pushing for a 12-month import ban.
There are suggestions by the government on what could be done, including the potential for automatic blurring of images of people and the likelihood of that, much of it stemming from photo-taking without consent and lack of clear consent mechanisms.
But with more cameras coming to wearables outside of glasses, it’s possible a ban couldn’t actually occur, and wouldn’t likely make the impact the government expects.

Check out Canberra Mornings for August 30 on ABC Canberra with Saskia Mabin for the full rundown, kicking in from just after the 18 minute mark (or at 18.06 to be exact).
