Not everyone is a fan of AI music, but whether you like it or not, the rules are about to change for people who release tracks this way. In a move to preserve the human-made level of authenticity in music, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) has announced a ban on AI-generated tracks from appearing in the nation’s top music charts, kicking off at the end of August.
The decision follows the rise in popularity of AI tunes, including an AI-assisted cover, and will prevent songs like (and including) it from remaining in the charts.
However, concerns have been raised about how well these rules might be applied when famous musicians use AI to build their music, something that’s also beginning to happen.
Pickr’s Leigh Stark joins Renee Krosch on ABC Sydney Evenings to talk AI tracks, and to share how he managed to build his own variations to test whether AI music can imitate based on how its models work.
