South Australians are set to hear a test emergency alert along with the rest of the nation on July 27 as the government runs a test. If you own a mobile phone that’s switched on and connected to the towers, you will very likely hear one of these alarms, and see a test message on your phone, as well.
The technology makes it possible for the authorities to use mobile towers to send messages, allowing for localised messages and national messages, too. But will it work for every mobile? And what will happen if the alert goes out while you’re on the phone in the middle of a conversation?
