ABC Queensland Afternoons: fall alarm scams

A new type of scam is hitting Australia, as criminals target people with fall alert and emergency systems. How do they work and what can you do? Pickr joins ABC to talk about what’s going on.

Scams are constantly evolving and scammers are regularly coming up with new ways to rip off people in a multi-million dollar industry built on lies and manipulation.

One way appears to be fairly recent in Australia, and that’s for scammers to go through emergency and life alarms, also known as fall detection devices.

Often just small phones wrapped into a gadget built to provide a location when an emergency happens, scammers appear to be targeting these devices in Australia, looking for new ways to make money.
