Reolink’s solar floodlight arrives to capture without cables

A new solar-ready security camera is here, meaning it can record when people land on your property, all without needing to be plugged into your power.

Solar panels are a constant hot topic, and not just because they heat up when the sun beats its rays down on them. Here in Australia, they’re a logical outcome for a country drenched in sun, a sunburnt country that can harness and use that energy for something else.

If you haver solar panels at your home, you probably know this all too well, but even if you don’t, you might be able to set up your home to support solar in some respects.

Over on the security side of things, solar panels have long been an optional extra, with something you plug in to keep the technology working.

When security camera maker Reolink arrived in Australia, solar panels were something you could easily find for its gear. For Reolink’s latest, it’s a built-in feature that forms a part of the design, and for a country with as much sun as Australia, it could make a massive difference.

Launched at CES earlier this year and now ready for release locally, the Solar Floodlight Camera is exactly what the name suggests it is: a bright floodlight system with a camera in the middle, and a solar panel up top.

The camera itself uses a 2K sensor giving you a little more than Full HD of capture quality, while the lens itself covers 150 degrees, making it wide, handy when you need to keep an eye on everything.

On the side of the camera are two bright LED panels designed to light up everything around them, and if the floodlight isn’t a deterrent, a built-in 110 decibel siren is sure to be.

A battery is also here, but the good news is you can lean on the solar panel to keep the floodlight camera charged and working, with AI not only able to work out what’s a person and a car — or even a pet and everything else — but also change the brightness of the floodlight depending on conditions.

Pricing in Australia sees the camera launch for $179.99, where it’s available now at Amazon and Reolink’s own site.
