Oppo turns to economical earbuds, tablets

Oppo is known for affordable phones, but the company is building a new generation of earbuds and a tablet made for economical buyers, as well.

Android tablets aren’t quite an iPad, but they can still offer something for customers keen to have a portable entertainment and productivity experience if they live in the world of Google’s operating system. They may even be able to save a few bucks in the process.

Saving money has long been connected with Oppo, because while the company produces some flagship gear, including a foldable or two, budget and mid-range devices initially made Oppo a challenger for phones, and to an extent other gadgets as well.

Being economical is still a focus, it seems, with two recent gadgets arriving in Australia designed to do just that, but not in phones. Rather, Oppo’s Pad SE aims for an economical take on an 11 inch tablet, while Oppo’s Enco Buds 3 applies to earbuds.

In the Oppo Pad SE, it’s a similar take on tablets we’ve seen from the brand, but with a 7.39mm slim body and an 11 inch screen, plus just under 10,000mAh of battery life, suggesting a reasonable amount of power.

Where Oppo is tapering back for the price is the memory and storage, setting it to 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, giving you the idea that the Oppo Pad SE is focused on budgets, and possibly kids. Android doesn’t always play nicely with under 8GB, but this should be fine for entertainment and web browsing, arriving for a $399 price point.

When it comes to earbuds, Oppo’s new play is budget focused again, but misses out on active noise cancellation, looking to extended battery life as a main feature.

As such, the Enco Buds 3 boast up to 48 hours of life with a 12.4mm driver in a design that looks a lot like a pair of AirPods, only made by Oppo and for $99.

“With the launch of the Oppo Pad SE and Oppo Enco Buds3, we’re bringing even more value to the Australian market with smart, stylish devices that work better together,” said Michael Tran, Managing Director of Oppo Australia.

“These new additions are all about enhancing everyday moments, from work and study to entertainment and connection, without compromising on quality or price,” he said.

While the idea of a slightly less expensive tablet might bring people over, the $99 Buds 3 seem a little less competitive than we’d like, especially when new challenger brands like Nothing’s CMF are able to deliver active noise cancellation for not far off the same price.

Australians will get to decide for themselves, however, with both models available online and in stores now.
