Journey builds a charging stand right into a laptop sleeve

The next evolution of basic laptop protection is to turn your lap into an anywhere desk, complete with a MagSafe iPhone charging stand.

We’re often asked where will the humble laptop go next, and for that we typically have some answers: thinner, lighter, faster. All of that makes sense, and are trends we can see coming.

But we’re never asked where the laptop sleeve will go next, because it’s not really the sort of thing anyone thinks about. Or so we thought.

Australia’s Journey appears to be doing just that, however, and barely a month after announcing an updated desk mat with a charging stand built in, the company is back with something similar but made to go: the evolution of a laptop sleeve complete with a charging stand built in.

The concept is basically a portable version of the Alti Lift, or even a slightly more developed incarnation of the Nexa sleeve from a couple of years ago.

Back in 2023, Journey’s Nexa offered a laptop sleeve that added a MagSafe charging pad for an iPhone and a smaller charger for the AirPods, all while protecting a laptop and working as a mouse pad.

This year, the Nexa is made new again, but it now comes with one more trick: the MagSafe charging panel can stand up and hold an iPhone at an angle, giving it a little more to work with.

We’re not sure if that panel is officially Qi2 — we know it works with the iPhone, which means it should be fine with the handful of Android phones that offer Qi2’s magnetic charging, as well. Given Qi2 is offered across a number of Journey products, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it make an appearance here, as well.

However, the sleeve will come in sizes for both regular-sized laptops (13 and 14 inches) and the larger 15 and 16 inch varieties, available now from $179 in Australia.
