Huawei circles back to round smartwatches in Watch GT 5

Samsung isn’t alone in its circular style of smartwatches, as Huawei readies a new generation of the Watch GT, distinct from its more Apple-inspired Fit range.

It seems Huawei isn’t done with circles, even though its recent Fit range would scream otherwise. While the Fit 4 range looks a whole lot like an Apple Watch Ultra, Huawei is continuing its return to local wearables by reviving its circular smartwatches, offering similar features and long battery life for people looking for a more watch-like approach to smart wearables.

Launching in Australia this month, Huawei’s Watch GT 5 will offer health and sleep tracking, using what the company claims is over 60 indicators to provide insights into health.

The wearable sports an IP69K rating, basically making it ready for most things, dust and water specifically, with this rating essentially one of the more extreme of resistance checks. That should bode well for adventurers and swimmers, which could well be who Huawei is tracking with its feature set.

Extra features include running insights and outdoor tracking, using satellite monitoring to track running and cycling, while route planning is offered on the watch, as well.

Support is provided for iPhone and Android users, and two extra features for people keen on a “pro” edition. If you don’t mind spending a little extra, Huawei’s Watch GT 5 Pro will offer a a free diving tracker with water type detection and built-in safety reminders, while golfers will find a golf course mode with over 15,000 3D course maps, 1400 of which are in Australia. The GT 5 Pro model will allow owners to measure distances and track scores from the wrist, no need to get the phone out.

Both models also look to offer serious battery life, with the 41mm edition of the Watch GT 5 offering up to seven days of life, while the 46mm models offering up to twice that, maxing out at 14 days.

Pricing in Australia sees the sane from $429, with the Watch GT 5 standard fetching that price in both the 41mm and 46mm editions, while the Pro models will cost $599 for the Watch GT 5 Pro 46mm and $799 for the 42mm Pro model, with availability from Amazon and JB HiFi.
