If you were thinking of buying a new Google phone in the next few weeks, maybe just hold off. A launch is on the cards, and new models are on the way.
It’s a busy period for phones and wearables and earphones, oh my! First we saw Nothing’s new Phone (3), then Samsung’s new foldables, while September looks like there’ll be a fair chance for some new iPhones and an Apple Watch or two, because that’s just how things typically go for Apple.
So what’s in between? August. And what’s on the cards for August? Google.
Like last year, Google is setting August as the month when we can expect new phones, as the Pixel 10 range is set for launch then.
Officially, Google will run its next “Made by Google “event at 1PM August 20 in New York, which means an early start for Australia’s technology journalists, kicking off at 3AM August 21 Sydney time for folks in our neck of the woods.
Expected at the launch are replacements for pretty much everything Google announced last year, with a Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pro likely replacing the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pro model, as well as a Pixel 10 Pro Fold replacing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold we saw. And yes, we also expect a standard Pixel 10 out of the launch, plus a new pair of Pixel Buds and maybe even a Pixel Watch 4, replacing the Pixel Watch 3.
Recent news from Google suggests ChromeOS is being combined with Android, which could mean that Android becomes a little more complex and useful beyond the phone, and we could see some of that at the launch, even in a preview state.
With August 21 only a month away, the good news is we won’t have long to wait to find out.
