If you heard ten seconds of beeping from your phone today, you weren’t alone. But not everyone did. What happened?
Most Australians were connected today through a joint sound millions of phones could hear, as the government tested the “AusAlert” warning system.
Set to roll out in October, AusAlert is the country’s new emergency alert system able to target specific regions using phone towers, and send specific instructions to mobiles within a certain area.
Before it rolls out, however, the government needs to make sure it works properly, and so chose the end of July for a big test. Was it a success, or is there still work to be done?
