The way phones receive messages from businesses is set to change on July 1, but what does this mean for scams?

Scams may be a little easier to detect from July 1, 2026, as a new requirement goes into effect requiring verification on numbers for businesses. The new rule means scammers using Australian numbers won’t be able to pretend they’re from an Australian company by faking the sender ID, and may prevent some scams.

But just because the new rules could make things more difficult for scammers, it doesn’t mean you’ll be completely protected. What’s going on, and what else could scammers do to get into your phone’s inbox and convince you to click?
