Everyone has a mobile, but crazily, not everyone has reception, even in this day and age. So that’s the problem, and can it be fixed?

It might seem surreal, but even though mobiles are within reach of practically everyone and every price point, the reception needed to make them work doesn’t always go hand-in-hand.

Australia has three main telcos — Telstra, Optus, and TPG-Vodafone — and while they provide mobile reception to most of the country, what you end up seeing on your phone can vary wildly based on where you are, what phone you use, and the conditions on the network at the time.

There are a lot of factors that go into dealing with mobile reception, but can anything be done about it?

On 3AW’s Afternoons with Tony Moclair this week, Pickr’s Leigh Stark jumped into some of the issues, explaining why mobile reception mightn’t always be there, and one of the tips you can do to make sure you have reception even if you live in a black spot.
