Scammers are at it again, this time turning your phone against you by making your phone theirs to steal money. What’s going on, and who’s to blame?
A family in Melbourne has found themselves victims of a horrible scam, as criminal phone porting rears its head once again. The approach sees scammers port a phone number away from its real owner, and once newly owned, is then used as a means for breaking through two-factor authentication into a bank account, transferring money away.
Pickr’s Leigh Stark appeared on 10 News Melbourne talking about this, and potentially who was to blame, with the telco in the position to check for greater points of ID to prevent the phone porting in the first place.
