The past couple of years has been interesting for the democratisation of sound, as more audio manufacturers pop up and find a way to get great audio to more ears without the cords.
You can find earbuds and earphones of all kinds, and if you aren’t happy with either, one of the more recent styles of buds might be more for you: earbuds that clip on, rather than simply rest outside your ear canal.
It’s true that not everyone fancies an earbud, and the fit is often the reason why. That could be why clip-on jewellery-styled earbuds are so intriguing, giving you an earbud that clips to the ear and holds nicely.
A concept launched a good two years ago, some of the bigger names in sound are only now beginning to get involved. That meant Sony earlier in the year, and now Sennheiser, which has added the Accentum Clip as an option in the assortment of clip-on earbuds.
Following on from some of the other Accentum offerings, this one is less about the noise cancellation of the Momentum headphones and more about open listening. They’ll use a dynamic equaliser to change volume as you walk, and include support for hi-res audio, though that might be less important given the lack of isolation.
However, the sheer lack of an isolated approach to sound is usually what makes this style so intriguing, allowing you to hear the world while you hear your tunes. And with up to nine hours of battery before needing a charge, the Accentum Clip may even be a pair you can wear all day without thinking about it.
Priced at $349, the Sennheiser Accentum Clip definitely fit on the more pricey side of open audio listening, but if they’re worth it, that may not matter. We’ll let you know shortly once we’ve put them through a review.
