Apple, TikTok collaborate to let you listen to that song

Scrolling and swiping up to jump through videos on social comes with a bit of a sore point: you might never find out what that song was. Fortunately, there’s now a fix of sorts.

Have you ever had a song on the tip of your tongue so badly that you desperately want to play the whole thing, but you just can’t?

With every swipe and scroll on social, that’s a situation that can actually happen, as videos use songs for backgrounds, leaving you with more questions than answers. You can obviously use the song for your own video, but what if you simply want to listen to it?

If you’re an Apple Music subscriber with TikTok, you will now be able to jump from one app to the other, as TikTok launches a music discovery system called “Play Full Song” that ties music found on TikTok with music available on Apple Music.

The system relies on Apple’s MusicKit, which essentially allows you to tap a button on TikTok to load the full song, which will open up Apple Music and stream the song initially heard on TikTok.

Essentially, it means if you’re an Apple Music subscriber, you can hear the music from TikTok videos with ease, rather than try to find them on your next scour.

It’s a very specific function, and one that feels like it would have worked directly with TikTok’s music service, had the social network left it functional and not shut it down back in 2024. At least this is open to more music subscribers, with Apple Music likely number two against Spotify.
