It’s not just the cost of Macs and iPads going up, as Apple increases the cost in its digital world, as well.
Frustratingly for Apple subscribers, that means the services they use may end up getting a little more costly, possibly just in time for new iPhone models to also cost more, making the price of an upgrade that little bit more, as well.
It’s not the same cost as every other provider, but it is a cost increase all the same, as Apple Music moves higher in price, just like seemingly every other provider.
Unfortunately, the increases occur on every plan, with the Student price going from $6.99 to $7.99, the Individual price up by $2 to $14.99, and the six-account Family going up $4 monthly to $23.99.
The cost change is reportedly being attributed to an increase in licensing costs, and affects other aspects of Apple’s service costs.
The potentially good news is the price is still less than the minimum $15.99 starting price Spotify starts at, a service that like others is grappling with AI music by talking about just how many AI tracks it’s purging. Of course, every music service has this issue, with over 75,000 AI tracks added daily.
The bad news is that subscribers of Apple One, the company’s premium service that brings together the rest of Apple’s offerings, is also on the rise. Prices for the various tiers on that platform are also on the up, with the biggest plan, the “Premier” account going from $49.99 to $52.99, while giving you nothing new.
That’s despite Premier’s 2TB storage inclusion, which has stayed the same for years, even though Apple’s mobile devices now match that storage amount. If you want more storage on an Apple account, you need to pony up for it with extra iCloud pricing, paying every month. Fortunately, those prices haven’t increased, though that could be a case more of yet.
For subscribers of the services, your renewals are likely to include those changes very shortly, which may mean spending a little more whether or not you want to, or considering alternatives just as soon as you find out.
