A new laptop or two is on the cards for launch very soon, as Apple sends a teaser online with a very obvious hint.
If you were thinking of buying a Mac this week or next, it is officially no longer a good time and you should probably consider waiting. That’s the sort of suggestion we normally dish out in the weeks leading up to an announcement, like saying “wait” before the launch of an iPhone or Apple Watch, because you might get the new model, rather than the old one.
We’ll suggest waiting the moment Apple officially sends word of an event, as that’s typically when new gear is announced. You’d probably be fine with the current technology, but newer is often better, and so waiting can have rewards.
This week, Apple hasn’t announced a new event per se, but it has sent a teaser about what’s on the way, with news for the laptop world.
A tiny six second teaser of a new Mac was shown on Greg Joswiak’s Twitter (X) feed, with Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing hinting that a laptop in the shape of a “V” was coming soon.
Given that the last MacBook chip series was the M4, and the Roman numeral “V” means five, it stands to reason Joswiak is making a pretty clear reference to the M5, a processor that has been expected to finish the year with.
Apple doesn’t normally hint at releases until they’re close, and 2025’s new MacBook Pro range may be on the way to end the year with, possibly as early as in the next few days, or even closing out October.
With that in mind, it’s back to our initial suggestion, because if you were thinking of buying a MacBook of any kind, maybe just wait. It seems like a new model or two is just around the corner (of the letter v).
