Audioengine’s A2+ add wireless sound to desk speakers

Not sure if you need a pair of speakers for your phone or your laptop? The A2+ could fit the bill, even if they’re not quite as big as the A2+ size suggests.

Australian paper sizes are a little different from what Americans have in 8×10, but if you know something about posters, you know about A3, A2, and A1.

You might not know those numbers, and you might only know A4, because we all kind of know number. For your printer, it’s a paper size more like 29.7mm by 21mm, also known as A4. At twice the size of A4, A3 is big. At twice the size of A3, A2 is even bigger. There’s even a slightly larger A2+ paper size.

And yet that’s not what the Audioengine A2+ speakers are.

More the height of the iPhone, the Audioengine A2+ speakers are a desktop-grade monitor speaker set that looks a little like a small shelf loudspeaker, but is made for your computer. It still uses cables to talk to each other, but yet also supports wireless if you want to send music from your phone or tablet.

Wireless works over Bluetooth with support for aptX, while wired connections are supported, too, with RCA, auxiliary, and USB if you feel like running the Audioengine A2+ as a sound card built into the speaker, we’re told.

The speakers themselves seem to be designed much like a smaller loudspeaker, with Aramid fibre used for the woofer cones, neodymium tweeters, and custom voice coils and magnets, complete with an option for red, black, or white.

Worth noting is that this is the third generation of the A2+, with the third-gen getting the wireless features into the mix.

You’ll find the Audioengine A2+ wireless speakers in stores shortly, specifically JB HiFi and specialists, with the A2+ costing starting at $399 for a pair.
