ABC Canberra Drive: smart car settings

Have you ever wondered if someone is listening to you talk in your car? It could be a possibility, but some settings could change things.

Have you ever wondered if someone is listening to you talk in your car? It could be a possibility, but some settings could change things.

Depending on the car you own, there’s a possibility albeit small that someone could be listening in.

Somewhere between settings and terms and microphones and smart car operating systems, there is now a risk that your words and actions inside your car could be at risk of being heard, with the intelligence arm of the government warning ministers not to talk about important matters inside some electric vehicles. What’s going on?

This week on Canberra Drive with Georgia Stynes, Pickr’s Leigh Stark will check in and tell you what the risks are if they even exist, and what to look out for in settings if you wanted to be cautious.

Check out the segment from June 8, 2026 to hear all about it, kicking in from the 1 hour 8 minute 35 second mark (before ABC takes the segment down, usually a week later).
