Pickr wins at the 2026 IT Journalism Awards

We’re always happy to help, but sometimes we can still be surprised. And surprised this publisher definitely was when it received the award for Best Consumer Technology Media in Australia.

It might seem big and possibly a little crazy, but there aren’t a lot of technology publications in Australia anymore, at least not in consumer tech.

There’s plenty of corporate, small business, channel, and news investigation, and there’s even quite a bit happening in the world of games journalism, but consumer tech can feel a little small by comparison.

We can possibly thank the departure of some of the bigger hitters over the past few years, such a Cnet and Gizmodo, but the consumer tech world still has some amazing writers working in it. You only need to glance at the list of nominees in the Best Consumer Tech Media space at this year’s awards, covering WhistleOut and Reviews, This Week In Videogames, GadgetGuy, and others.

Pickr was a part of that bunch, as well, and we’re just generally (and genuinely) “happy to help”, a statement repeated on radio because that’s the vibe.

But this past week, that sentiment was recognised at technology journalism’s night of nights, the IT Journalism Awards, with Pickr picking up the nod for Best Consumer Technology Media in Australia.

Pickr’s editor also picked up a Highly Commended for Best Reviewer.

As editor, I am still largely at a loss for words, because it’s genuinely so humbling. The whole approach for Pickr is to help, to provide research in the consumer tech space, and so the website and publication does its job when you get something from it.

If Pickr helps you pick something from research, its job is successful.

But it’s a privilege to win an award like this, to be acknowledged as the Best Consumer Technology Media in Australia.

Technology journalism is hugely important in today’s world, and we aim to provide a critical resource for anyone looking to make sense of it. Happy to help.
