Panasonic resizes the bread-maker for smaller spaces

Small appliances wasting big space in the kitchen are a good reason why they’re often put away. A new bread-maker from Panasonic aims to challenge that.

There’s only so much a kitchen can have without looking cluttered. Much like your desk, a kitchen counter typically demands the things you use, and very little that you don’t.

Think of the regular must-haves: kettle, coffee machine, toaster and such. Maybe even an air fryer, depending on how much you rely on. Bigger appliances that sit in the rare use category are likely there because of size, but also because you have nowhere else to put them.

That’s one of the problems with the idea of a small appliance: some of them are just so big, they’re difficult to place. A bread-maker, for instance, falls in that category, and the technology hasn’t seemed to have changed much in the recent years.

Pour the ingredients into a special bowl, set it up, and wait. That’s how things have been for ages.

So what’s changing? The size. Specifically. new models are getting a more bucket-like approach in design, allowing them to fit into tighter spaces, taking up less room.

Panasonic has chimed in this week with news of a smaller take on the category, delivering what it says is a “Compact Bread Maker”, the SD-PN100. The new model is similar to the larger SD-R2530 bread maker we checked out from the brand in the past, but made with a space-saving design.

The hardware is similar, providing a bowl that can make a loaf of bread, covering 18 programs ranging white and wholemeal loaves to pizza dough, but jam is also supported because the way bread makers work can also be applied to making jam.

Locally, Australians can expect to find the Panasonic PN100 Compact Bread Maker for $269, with availability from electronics retailers across the country.
